About this Event

Drone Forum: November 2019

We are excited to invite you to Drone Forum: November 2019. This forum promises to be a valuable opportunity for us to share what we are doing to facilitate drone integration, and, more importantly, it is an opportunity to get your input on our work.

On the day we will cover:

Agency Updates

Agencies will provide a brief update on recent work:

  • Ministry of Transport (MOT)
  • Ministry of Business, Innovation and Enterprise (MBIE)
  • Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
  • Airways

Drone Safety and Regulation: Key themes

The Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority have been undertaking engagement with selected stakeholders to test early thinking on potential updates to New Zealand’s drone regulatory settings. They will provide a summary of key themes emerging from the engagement to date.

Interactive Workshop: Alternatives to the “consent provision”

Under the current rules, people operating drones under Part 101 (i.e. without specific approval from CAA) must gain consent before flying over people or property. We are looking at possible alternatives, e.g. many countries specify a safe flying distance from people and property. This interactive workshop will focus on exploring possible options, including looking at how the options could work in New Zealand, pros and cons, and associated risks.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided at the end of an event, and there will also be an opportunity to network following the conclusion of the event.
