Description

Make a Difference to Local Not-for-Profit Organisations

During a Fun Weekend of Problem-Solving

Following on from last year's very successful Impact NPO Hackathon, SIGNAL ICT Grad School is pleased to again host and co-sponsor this fun, creative and very worthwhile community event, along with Platinum Recruitment.

If you have skills in tech, marketing, web design, finance, communications, graphic design, business, philosophy, policy, arts, customer experience or any other area, and would like to use your skills to help local charities ....we want YOU!

The Hackathon is an opportunity for socially conscious volunteers to come together to solve problems for local Not For Profit organisations (NPO's), in whatever way they can. To read more about the previous event in Dunedin, check out Nathan Moffatt's article from the SIGNAL Network newsletter.

What is an ImpactNPO Hackathon?

Hackathons also called IdeasFests, ThinkSmashes, and Creative Coding Workshops, but they are not only about software developing!

Designed to assist local NPO's, this volunteer organisation runs fun, high-energy and impactful weekends where teams of tech, design and business professionals work together to build solutions for local charities. With a mission of 'Harnessing ingenuity for good', ImpactNPO Hackathons let you broaden your network, meet new people, work on creative solutions, and benefit a local NPO or charity for the good of the community!

What can we expect as results for the NPOs?

This depends on you, your team and the needs of your chosen NPO! ImpactNPO has helped numerous NPO's with websites, IT infrastructure, design, branding, content as well as general advice. For more info check out the list on impactnpo.org.

How do NPO's apply?

NPO's can apply for consideration through the link here: http://www.impactnpo.org/benefitsnpo/.

What do I need to bring?

An open mind, a smile and your own computer/laptop. Don’t forget your phone, chargers or any other gadgets that you rely on.

What's in it for me?

First and foremost we aim to help local non-profits. NPOs often have quite a lot of tech or business challenges. Through this, you may find that you meet new people from different companies or industries, find contacts if you're looking for work, or get to step outside of your comfort zone and learn something new through a weekend project. Or just have a fun weekend working as part of a team to deliver something that is really useful to the community!

The weekend starts on Friday 6th September, from 6 pm to 8 pm, with networking, charity introductions, and team forming. You will be volunteering your weekend (Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of September, and we will be providing the daytime food and snacks to keep you well fed and energised!

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at jennifer@platinum.co.nz or dunedin@signal.ac.nz or message us on Facebook(www.facebook.com/impactnpo)
