Event Details

The presenter is world-class security expert Aldo Cortesi of NullCube, the author of mitmproxy (which just had a new major update released).

The venue and afternoon tea are both provided with the generosity of the Otago Polytechnic!

Please note: this workshop runs from 1pm to 5pm. There is a lot of interest and limited places, so if you're not able to make it for the entire time then please wait for the next workshop. That way we make the most of this great opportunity.

A hands-on introduction to penetration testing IOS applications. We'll begin with a quick overview of mobile security, the unique privacy issues in this area, and recent developments. Then we'll move on to the fun stuff: a deep dive into the two mainstay avenues of attack in mobile pen testing. First, traffic interception, with a particular emphasis on SSL man-in-the-middle attacks. Second, direct examination of apps using a jailbroken device. During the practical portions of this session you will have the opportunity to mount attacks against real applications, and see actual exploits in action.

This will be an intermediate level session, assuming comfortable familiarity with TCP/IP networking, HTTP/S, Unix, and basic programming proficiency. If you have an IOS device (or better still - a jailbroken IOS device), please bring it along.
