Title

E-Textiles- the future of fabrics

Description

An introduction to constructing soft circuits.

This is a practical workshop to create working models to use in an educational setting. Participants will be designing conceptual circuits using digital technologies, as well as using smart fabrics and electronic components to sew sensing circuits. The outcomes will be portable products that can be used as a teaching resource. Each participant will receive their own kit and materials to take away with them.

Part of the workshop will include working with the NZ National Curriculum Technology Learning Progressions in order to scaffold learning in the Year 7-8 range and to suit participants' needs.

Timings

9am - 3pm with breaks for morning tea and lunch. This is a fully catered event. Please advise dietary requirements.

Junior Technology teachers, Intermediate Technology teachers.

Not just for textile teachers - for anyone wanting to find out more about how to use E-textiles and electronics in junior technology.

Outcomes

By the end of the workshop teachers will :

Understand the basics of electronic circuits

Be able to design simple circuits

Be able to sew soft circuits

Have produced functional samples to use in the classroom

Planned a unit for their year 7/8 class based on ideas generated through the workshops
