13 to 17 April

  • Mt. Biking the Mangapurua track
  • Canoeing the Whanganui River
  • Hiking the Bridge to Nowhere and the Tongariro Crossing
  • Camping in the NZ bush
  • Lessons and devotions on THE BIG PICTURE of life and where I fit. 
  • The goal?  Get outdoors…have fun…meet new people…challenge ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually.

Trip Itinerary:

Day 1 - Thursday, April 13th

4pm drive from Papamoa to Raetihi Holiday Park.  Stop for dinner on the way.  3.5 hours

Stay at Raetihi Holiday Park

Day 2 - Thursday, April 14th  

8am shuttle bus to start of Mangapurua Trail

Ride Mangapurua Trail (34 kilometre bike ride)

4pm  Picked up at Mangapurua Landing by Bridge to Nowhere Jet boat 

5pm  Camp at Bridge to Nowhere Lodge campground

Day 3 - Thursday, April 15th     

Hiking Bridge to Nowhere trails

Day 4 - Thursday, April 16th      

Sunrise service.  

Canoe 21km from Bridge to Nowhere to Pipiriki

Shuttle back to Raetihi.  Pick up vehicles.  Drive to Whakapapa Village

Camping at Whakapapa Village

Day 5 - Thursday, April 17th  

7:30am leave to start Tongariro Crossing 

Approx 3pm  leave Tongariro, drive to Papamoa.  

Arrive home approx 6pm.  

To Bring List:

  • sleeping bags
  • pillow
  • layers
  • rain gear
  • personal plate, bowl, cutlery, cup
  • water bottle
  • towel
  • toiletries
  • hat and gloves for Tongariro Crossing
  • bug spray
  • helmet
  • torch
  • togs
  • Bible if you have one
  • sandals/jandals for campground wear
  • hiking shoes with good grip soles
  • snacks
  • plastic rubbish bag for dirty/wet clothes
  • small day backpack
  • money for McDonalds dinner Thursday evening
  • You can bring your own Mt. Bike helmet or use the rental company’s.

** If you were contacted to bring a TENT or MOUNTAIN BIKE please include. 

Please note:  This is not a backpacking trip, our gear will be shuttled for us.  You will only need a daypack to carry snacks, water etc. with you while we are biking, hiking and canoeing.  Items like sleeping bags, pillows and tents will be fine in seperate strong plastic bag(s).  

Cost:  The cost for this camp is over $400.  However, thanks to generous support from individuals and churches who desire to make this kind of camp affordable, the cost per student has dropped to $100.

Easter Wilderness Camp will be chaperoned by adults from Current and from Christ’s Church of Effingham, (Illinois, USA).  



We will be canoeing 21km of the Whanganui River, one of NZ’s Great Walks!
