Event description
Economic Appraisal - Cost-Benefit Analysis for Better Decision Making

About this event

High quality policy making and infrastructure decisions must consider not just the financial but also the wider social, environmental or cultural impacts of projects and policies. Identifying the true additional costs and benefits of new policies, regulations or investment decisions can be hard and quantifying the identified impacts can be even harder. We will walk you through 10 basic questions that you should have in mind whenever you make a policy or infrastructure decision. These questions will not turn you into an instant economist, but will equip you for framing the problem you are trying to solve, determining whether it is a council problem to fix, identifying costs and benefits of projects, and highlighting the risks that things may work out differently from planned. We’ll look at common pitfalls to avoid using real-life examples. The sessions will be interactive and encourage group work with participants applying concepts to practical exercises.
