Presenter - Dr Karen Smith-Lock

This workshop is relevant to speech language therapists working in a paediatric setting with children aged from 3 upwards, including school-aged children. It will examine current evidence-based practice in the treatment of morphology and syntax in preschool and school-aged children and will comprise of lecture style content, interactive discussion and hands-on practice of treatment techniques.

Topics will include:

  • the evidence base for grammar treatment in children with developmental language disorders, including treatment parameters such as treatment technique, frequency of intervention, treatment fidelity and model of service delivery.
  • in depth exploration of specific techniques for the treatment of morphology and syntax, including observation of the techniques in practice, treatment planning, and hands-on practice for participants.
  • how to evaluate treatment success in the clinical setting.
  • analysis of case studies in order to identify appropriate treatment targets, plan treatment activities and techniques, and suitable evaluation of treatment outcomes.
  • how to incorporate evidence based practice into every day practice.
