Hosted by EMUGs New Zealand

Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Groups is pleased to invite POCUS leaders from around the world to come together in a social and friendly environment to mingle with your fellow ultrasound enthusiasts.

Share ideas, discuss POCUS research and education trends and look to the future in a collaborative learning environment.

Join us at the newly opened Generator workspace “The Square” in Britomart Place, downtown Auckland. Afterwards we’ll enjoy spectacular ocean views and an inspired menu at nearby Ostro. This iconic restaurant is renowned for its locally-sourced, seasonal dishes created by Josh Emett and perfected by head chef Daniel Na.

A strong advocate for ED Ultrasound as an ED Consultant and it has driven me to the forefront of credentialing, equipment acquisition and maintenance, imaging management and ongoing education. Played a central role in gaining funding for my local EDUS program. Ambitions for POCUS programs in ANZ to be accessible for more ED doctors while meeting high standards of quality and consistency.

Dr Luke Phillips - Co-Chair EMUGs Victoria

Luke is an Emergency Physician at Alfred Health in Melbourne where he is involved in regular teaching and ultrasound accreditation. He believes ultrasound to be an extension of our physical exam and enables us to be better clinicians. He has special interests in the use of ultrasound for critically unwell patients, in trauma management and in the use of ultrasound to improve patient safety during procedures in the ED. He is the creator and editor of the open access education website and blog – pocusgeelong.com, a reviewer for the POCUS section for Life in the Fast Lane weekly review and an instructor with Ultrasound Training Solutions.

Guest Speaker - Dr Michael Blavis

Dr. Blaivas completed an emergency medicine residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center, followed by an emergency ultrasound fellowship at Christ Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago (University of Illinois). He has held faculty positions in multiple universities and is currently an affiliate professor of medicine at the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine. Clinically, Dr. Blaivas works at Piedmont Hospital in Newnan Georgia as well as St Francis Hospital Emergency Department in Columbus, Georgia. Dr. Blaivas is a pioneer of point-of-care ultrasound. He has published nearly 200 peer reviewed articles on point-of-care ultrasound and multiple book chapters. Additionally, he is the editor of 5 medical textbooks. His research interests over the years have spanned from resuscitation, lung ultrasound, out of hospital and space applications of ultrasound through ocular ultrasound, ultrasound guided procedures such as vascular access and regional nerve blocks as well as bench research.

EMUGs is a not for profit organisation supported by a small central operations team. Ticket sales fund EMUGs operations so we can continue our mission of advancing the use of POCUS in Emergency Medicine.
We aim to ensure ticket prices reflect the value our events provide while ensuring EMUGs longevity. Thank you for your support.


What is the best way for me to get to/from the event?

Driving - There is limited parking at the Britomark Carpark which is $25 a day. Street parking is also available but is limited.

Public transport - This location is close to both buses and trains, the building is right next to the Britomark train station.
