About this Event

Are you developing novel foods derived from natural health products or emerging proteins?

Join us for a workshop on Friday 4th December when we will partner with The New Zealand Food Safety Science & Research Centre (NZFSSRC) to learn more on how to ensure the safety and authenticity of your products.

The 2.5-hour workshop will cover:

a) How companies can verify that novel foods are safe to eat

b) Demonstrate technologies that can be used to demonstrate traceability to underpin the safety record of novel foods

c) A light lunch and networking

Topics to be covered include:

  • Presentation from Ben Sutherland from FSANZ about the regulatory requirements for demonstrating the safety of novel foods with a case study
  • Presentation from scientist Dr Chrissie Butts, from Plant and Food on toxicological assessments for novel foods with a case study about Kawakawa tea
  • Presentation by Paul Ryan from Trust Codes about developments and use of traceability technologies with a case study relating to food safety from Laura Roberts from Mānuka Health NZ Limited using Trust Codes
  • Presentation from Angus Brown, CEO of Arepa highlighting the science behind Arepa, a product using neuroscience to support focus and its registration as a novel food
  • A panel discussion and Q&A with key stakeholders from the workshop
