Envirotour to Foxton and Manawatu Estuary
Walk the Piriharakeke Walkway, visit Wildlife Foxton Trust Centre for a BBQ lunch, ride a boat through the Foxton Loop, and view godwits and other shorebirds at an internationally-recognised estuary.
Don't miss this one-off opportunity for a guided introduction to the environment and heritage of our Manawatu River as it flows out to the sea. Even those familiar with the area will learn something new about the region's history and ecology.
A reasonable level of fitness is required as a 4.5 km walk is included. As this is a full day's trip and involves a fair bit of walking and talking the trip is not particularly suitable for small children.
Cost is $20. This covers transport from Palmerston North by bus, a BBQ lunch and afternoon tea.
Registrations close Thursday December 1st. We recommend you register early, as places are strictly limited.
If unsuitable river conditions prevent the boat ride part of the trip from going ahead, we reserve the right to run the trip without the boat ride.
If bad weather means the whole trip must be postponed, all participants will be advised by email and by a notice on this event page. Any postponement will be advised by the morning of Friday December 2nd, with the new date to be advised after December 4th (most likely in February 2017)
This trip is brought to you by Environment Network Manawatu and the biodiversity cluster with financial support from Palmerston North City Environmental Trust, the New Zealand Landcare Trust and Horizons Regional Council. ENM also wishes to acknowledge operational support from the Palmerston North City Council, Lottery Community, ECCT and COGS.
