Event description

Description

You are warmly invited to join us beforehand at 5.30 pm for the OMEP Auckland AGM and light refreshments.

Workshop Presenters:

Marina Bachmann, Zane McCarthy, Kate Harris (OMEP Auckland members) and the team at Collectively Kids.

Environmental Education has been the foundation of the work at Collectively Kids for more than a decade. Over time their focus has broadened from practical approaches to looking at children’s rights, advocacy and agency.

It is our goal to support children to develop a wide range of skills and ways of being, thinking and acting that enable them to engage positively with the environmental and social challenges in their present and future. Gender stereotypes limit possibilities and are barriers to social justice. The team are exploring and challenging working theories of gender and developing strategies that will, and have already, changed the way teachers and children think and interact. Rather than taking something away from children, it adds possibilities for equitable opportunities for children and can counter actions or comments that categorise, stereotype, or exclude people and meets our philosophy toward achieving quality education for the 21st Century .”

Their project "Exploring a gender neutral curriculum and culture" won a World OMEP 2018 Education for Sustainable Development Award, and is included in OMEP World’s contribution to the UNESCO’s Global Action Program. The team received US$1,000, supporting Marina and Zane to attend and present at the World OMEP conference in Prague in June of this year.

This is a free event but please register with Eventbrite.
