Join local historian and urbanist Alexandra Bonham on this special Festival walk into Ponsonby’s history.

Enjoy informed commentary about the colourful suburb’s culture and history, including the evolution of ‘rainbow Ponsonby’, the women’s bookshop, and the shifting fortunes of Freeman’s Bay, Grey Lynn and Ponsonby from industry and slums to wealth and displacement.

From the corner of Karangahape Road to St Marys Bay, the tour traverses the length of Ponsonby Road and interesting lanes and side streets (wear comfortable shoes!), past award-winning private houses and architectural offices, important heritage sites and significant landmarks.

This free tour will be offered twice during the Festival as follows, please select your preference when booking.
