Speaker bios
Matthew Goodson, CFA
Matthew is a Director and shareholder of Salt and a Portfolio Manager for the Dividend Appreciation Fund, Enhanced Property Fund and Long Short Fund and Salt's wholesale funds.
Matthew started his career as an Economist with Garlick & Co from 1993-1995 before becoming Head of Research from 1995-1997. He then spent seven years in New York working for BZW and Goldman Sachs JB Were as Director, Wholesale Equities before returning to New Zealand in 2004 to work for First NZ Capital also as Director, Wholesale Equities until 2009. During this time Matthew also managed a long short fund for First NZ Capital from 2006-2008. Immediately prior to founding Salt, Matthew was employed for over four years as a Portfolio Manager at BT Funds Management (NZ) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westpac Financial Services Group Limited.
Matthew has a Bachelor of Arts degree and Masters in Commerce and Administration (First Class Honours) from Victoria University of Wellington and a CFA charterholder.
Leighton Roberts
Leighton is one of the founders and Directors of the investment platform, Sharesies. He is passionate about equal investment opportunities having started his own investment portfolio 10 years ago with 15 friends, each investing $50 a week. Prior to taking the leap into the fintech start up world, Leighton led the Home Loan and Business lending portfolios at Kiwibank.
Murray Harris
As Head of KiwiSaver & Distribution, Murray Murray is responsible for Milford’s KiwiSaver business and the distribution team managing Milford’s institutional and intermediary relationships. He is also a member of Milford’s Executive Leadership Team.
He has been at Milford since January 2013 and has over 20 years’ experience in financial services. Prior to Milford he was part of the Senior Management Team at Spicers Portfolio Management, a Director at Goldman Sachs JBWere Asset Management and a Vice President at BT Funds Management NZ.Murray is a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), is a member of the Financial Services Council of NZ and the Institute of Finance Professionals of NZ (INFINZ).
Craig Stobo Associate Member CFA Society NZ, CFInstD
Craig has worked as a diplomat, economist, investment banker and was CEO of BT Funds Management (NZ) Ltd. He has authored reports for the NZ Government on the Taxation of Investment Income (which led to the PIE tax regime for managed funds); and the creation of a funds domicile in NZ; and provided specialist advice to government and private sector clients. He is an independent Chair of the Local Government Funding Agency, AIG Insurance New Zealand and NZX-listed Precinct Properties. He is also Chair and shareholder of private companies including Elevation Capital Management, Saturn Portfolio Management, Biomarine Group and Legend Terrace.He has BA (Hons) Economics, First Class, from Otago University and Advanced Management Programme from Wharton.
