About this event

Kia ora!

Come and join us on Saturday, July 6th at Saint Peters in the City for the world premiere of Flax Fingers Weave the Moonlight: music for Matariki.

The Tauranga Civic Choir commissioned Musical Director, Nigel Williams, to compose some music for Matariki, and he has set to music texts from some well-known Māori writers – Apirana Taylor, Sir Haare Williams, Robert Sullivan and Hone Tuwhare.

Our MC will be Carol Storey, a well-known Tauranga singer, songwriter and teacher, and we will be accompanied by a string quartet, flute, piano and percussion.

Let the music of Flax Fingers weave a tapestry of connection with soul-stirring melodies and rhythms as we celebrate this special time of year.

PLEASE NOTE: you have a choice of times: 1:30pm or 4pm. Tickets are marked accordingly. Light refreshments will be offered between the two concerts, so you are welcome to stay after the first, or come early for the second.

Tickets are $22.20 ($20 plus charges). School children are free, but need a ticket for seating purposes.
