Event description

Description

This wananga is over two days, 9am - 4pm both days. It is suitable for those who have completed the basics as provided in the one day 'Flax weaving - Kete for beginners' course (Feb 23, 24). Participants will need to prepare the harakeke (flax) prior to the class.

During the wananga you will learn about treament and process options for harakeke, including boiling and dying, weaving the kete and decorating it.

Participants are to bring their lunch with them both days. (Please note: tikanga applies so no weaving for those who are pregnant or have their period at the time of the wananga).

This event is organised by the Mid Canterbury TimeBank and is one of their Term 1 Learning Exchange events. The Harakeke Wananga have been made possible thanks to funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
