About this event

Alana Madgwick and Del Costello pull together their collective knowledge to provide this interactive workshop that will challenge participants to reassess what oral language looks like in a cross curricular setting.

As educators we understand the importance of reo a-waha but we must ask the question “how are we equipping students with the oral language skills that will allow them to be successful in academic achievement, in building positive relationships and in valuing their culture, language and identity?”

As well as this, employers are crying out for school graduates to be confident, articulate problem solvers who can work effectively in teams. We cannot leave oral language and the development of communication skills to chance for our rangatahi.

In this workshop Alana and Del will discuss the importance of creating space for the explicit and direct teaching of oral language skills across the curriculum, and how leaders and teachers can develop and embed systems that provide equitable access to oral language development.
