The University of Auckland’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) is delighted to be celebrating its milestone 50th anniversary with a series of alumni events throughout 2018.
FMHS alumni are invited to join us at The Harvard Club of New York City, to find out more about some of the latest Faculty research and amazing breakthroughs achieved as a result of FMHS endeavours over the past 50 years. Please join us for this special occasion, which will also include networking opportunities before and after the main presentation to meet with fellow graduates.
Speaker: Dr James Michael Church
Born and raised in New Zealand, James Church was in the first intake of students for the Auckland Medical School in 1968, graduating in 1974, and then underwent surgical training. In 1983 he began a colorectal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, USA, joining the staff in 1989. He retired in 2016 but remains on contract staff at the Clinic. Dr Church held the Victor W. Fazio Chair and recently stepped down as Director of the Sanford R. Weiss Center for Hereditary Colorectal Neoplasia. He has been Chairman of the Leeds Castle Polyposis Group and the International Collaborative Group on HNPCC and founded the Collaborative Group of the Americas for Inherited Colorectal Cancer. Dr Church was Co-Editor of Diseases of the Colon and Rectum for 10 years, Vice President of ASCRS and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Auckland in 2008. He is a Fellow of the American Surgical Association and several other professional societies. He is the sole author of two textbooks, editor of several, and author or co-author of over 360 peer-reviewed articles.
