Learn about the career opportunities for CFA charterholders

About this Event

CFA Society New Zealand is super excited about its new career website. Check it out: careers.cfasociety.org.nz

This event will showcase the new website and some of the people in it.

Plus, hear about what it's like to prepare for and sit a CFA exam, and from a panel of CFA charterholders (more below) about their career experiences and advice for people interested to start, or further advance, a career in finance.

Note that this event will be held online if Covid-19 intervenes.

THE PANEL

Anna Boyle, CFA

Anna is Portfolio Manager in the Investment Solutions team at BT Funds Management (NZ) Ltd (BTNZ). She leads the research, selection and monitoring investment process for the team, focusing primarily on listed equity and property asset classes. BTNZ is the investment arm of Westpac NZ, managing the funds offered by Westpac NZ including the Westpac KiwiSaver Scheme. Prior to joining BTNZ almost 12 years ago, she worked in corporate access and corporate broking for an investment bank in London.

Beini Guo, CFA

Beini has five years of M&A experience, having spent her first two years at an investment banking firm before moving to the Corporate Finance team in PwC. As a manager at PwC, Beini has continued to grow her passion for leading the day-to-day complexities of the M&A transaction process and providing sound advice to clients, which include private equity, corporate investors and company management teams.

Beini has been involved in a range of mergers & acquisitions, valuation and strategic review projects. Her experience spans across different industries such as healthcare, food & beverage, information technology and tourism, including cross-border deals.

John Horrell, CFA

John is Consultant and Co-founder of Makao Investments, an independent investment advisory business in Auckland. As an investment consultant, he advises large investors on their governance framework, asset allocation and manager selection, drawing on his prior experience working in asset management in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. John holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Otago, is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CAIA Association. John also volunteers for CFA Society New Zealand.

Stuart Millar, CFA

Stuart Millar is the Chief Investment Officer for Smartshares Limited, manager of the Smartshares exchange traded funds (ETFs) and its Superlife Managed Funds and KiwiSaver. Previously he was Head of Div. Portfolio Management at ANZ Investments directing the management of ANZ's suites of multi-asset KiwiSaver, Managed Investment Funds and Private Bank model portfolios.

Stuart began his career in capital markets working at JP Morgan, London and returned to NZ to join what was then Armstrong Jones (NZ) Ltd as an Investment Analyst. He was later Investment Strategist for ING New Zealand, OnePath NZ and ANZ's Global CIO covering NZ, Australia and Asia. He has extensive experience across broad range of asset classes. He has held lead roles in investment strategy, asset allocation and currency management, and portfolio manager of a thematic global equity portfolio. He has also managed third-party multi-manager equity and fixed interest portfolios.
