About this event

Te Uru Rākau – Forestry New Zealand is hosting a series of regional workshops between November 2019 and April 2020 to develop an innovative strategy that will guide New Zealand’s forest system over the next 30 years and beyond.

We need your help.

There are many people with an interest in the future of forests and trees in New Zealand. Central government is just one of many players. Working together will help us reach a common understanding of what we want the future of forests and trees to look like, why we want this, and what we need to do to get there.

Te Uru Rākau has already been talking with a lot of different people from across the system including Māori, industry, environmental NGOs, other primary sector organisations, local and regional councils, scientists, educators, students and other government agencies.

These regional workshops will help bring diverse voices into one room so that we can:

• better understand your needs and wants regarding the forest system

• hear what opportunities or problems there are in the system and how these could be addressed

• incorporate your insight to help shape the focus areas for a strategy.

We will also be holding other workshops in Nelson and Rotorua, with additional locations to be confirmed in early 2020.
