Event description
With a foster care & practitioner focus, this workshop is on improving young people's education, training & education outcomes

About this Event

About the workshop: In New Zealand and elsewhere, we have long known about the power of learning in transforming outcomes for children and young people in care. Whether because of or despite the care system, some children and young people do well in terms of education, training and employment. However most don't. With unemployment growing and likely to get significantly worse, care experienced young people are going to be further disadvantaged in the current economic environment. If ever there was a time to focus on education, training and employment of young people in care, that time would be now.

Who is this workshop for? This training workshop is for foster carers only.

Note: This is one of seven training workshops on this topic that will be run in Wellington over October and November (they are all tailored towards either foster care, residential care or transitioning from care, with one of each for managers, and another for practitioners. There is also a free event for foster carers). Please ensure that you register for the correct event. The full list, dates and prices are at www.betteroutcomes.org.nz/programs

Workshop outcomes: By the end of the training workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the education, training an employment challenges that care experienced young people face, and the likely impact of recession.

2. Understand the international evidence base on 'what works' and its applicability to their own context and current and future uncertainty.

3. Selectively apply or develop multiple ideas, strategies, frameworks or tools.

4. Have the ability to confidently share their learning with their team and others

Covid-19: In the event that the event needs to be postponed due to any Covid-19 restrictions, participants will be given the option of a rescheduled event, an online event, or an individual coaching sessions. While not automatic, any requests for refunds will be individually considered.
