Description

Free our Kea

from Predators, humans and the threat of extinction...

Kea were crowned New Zealand Bird of the year for 2017 and we are profiling the kea at Arthur’s Pass during Conservation Week. This event is being hosted by the Department of Conservation, the Kea Conservation Trust. Arthur's Pass Wildlife Trust and the Kea Sightings Project.

There will be a public presentation and discussions about kea from 10.30 – 12 midday in the Visitor Centre followed by a barbeque for all those attending. Visitors can then join the locals checking their trapping lines in Arthur’s Pass, or join a kea-themed interpretative walk around the village.

As well as the above event, we will be running a range of kea related activities during Conservation Week (15-23 September) in the Visitors Centre.

A recent article about Kea was published in the New Zealand Geographic - https://www.nzgeo.com/stories/birds-of-play/?source=homepage
