Event Details

We are excited to bring Queenstown the Freedom of Flight Film Festival

One night only on the 10th of December we bring you an array of inspirational Free Flight Films showcasing NZ and international, hang gliding, speedflying and paragliding films.

Join us for a drink before the show at the venue from 6 pm, the show kicks off at 7 pm and goes through till 10pm. All profits goes to two children’s charities - Cholmondeley and ONGD NICA (details at end).

We have two, one day intro paragliding courses to give away on the night for those attending who are not already pilots. Thanks to www.infinityparagliding.co.nz and www.extremeair.co.nz



THE LINE UP

Part 1

X – Alps 2017 Family edition

Nick Neynens, our very own NZ competitor in the world’s toughest race - the Red Bull X–Alps, where athletes race across the Alps by foot or paraglider travelling over a straight line distance of over 1000Km. He has competed in it twice, first time for fun and this year he made it his family holiday.

The Dream Gulley

This is a short story of a new speedflying line in the New Zealand backcountry. 2nd place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Pedro Pimentel. Pedro Pimentel Visuals.

Laws of Nature

Arvid Berg gives us a glimpse into what flying really is all about.

Pacific Pyla

Dune flying in NZ.  6th place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Aniko Hegedus of Kiwi-Air.

Supercharged Freedom Fighter’s

Arvid Berg puts you right in the action with this epic speedflying film.

Crossing the Line

A trip around NZ some great photos, some great flying and one man’s passion. 5th place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Taureau Global and Mark Thompson.

Speed Run Project Zoncolan

Matjaz Klemenic brings us a film showing that hang gliding is not old school. You have seen speedflying - here is speed hang gliding.

Organya Dark Side

Artefact brings us this gritty showcase of the new generation of acrobatic paragliding from the acro capital of the world Organya, with Egor Posokhin.


Part 2

Fly

Fenella Bowater, a Lyttelton film maker, brings us a documentary about two of NZ’s top speedflyers.

Coupe du monde de parapente 2017 France

Artefact introduces you to the amazing world of competitive flying with this edit of the 2017 Paragliding World Cup.

Go with the Wind

XC paragliding Arthurs Pass. 4th place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Jean Brossard, Michal Talavasek of Staring at Clouds.

Veso Ovcharov Paragliding (Big Acro in Spain)  

Artefact gives us a taste of what acrobatic paragliding is all about with Veso Ovcharov in Spain.

Intention

What does it mean to be a father, have serious accidents and yet continue to pursue your passion of flight. 1st place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Pedro Pimentel and Sam Bartholomew of Serendipity Friendship.

(As the winning team they selected the charities Cholmondeley and ONGD NICA that the profit from the shows are going. Both charities support children and youth in difficult circumstances.)

SEIKOBOY

Seiko Fukuoka gives us a glimpse into her amazing world and achievements as paragliding pilot.

Dream Land

Paramotoring in the North Island a film of picturesque NZ from the seat of a Paramotor. 3rd place in the FoFFF short NZ film contests, filmed, edited and produced by Michael Verhagen of Kiwi-Air.

Louder than Words

Matjaz Klemenic shared many things with his father but hang gliding and Pink Floyd were a big part of them. It’s where they come back together, up there in the sky.


Part 3

North of Known

When Gavin McClurg decided he wanted to push the boundaries of expedition paragliding; he could not have picked a more rugged, convoluted and downright burly route. In terrain where bears outnumber people, roads are non-existent and flying conditions are completely unknown, Gavin and Dave Turner embark on the most remote and aggressive vol-biv expedition ever attempted. Traversing the entire length of the Alaska Range unsupported a film by Gavin McClurg & Dave Turner of Reel Water Productions.

The charities were picked by the NZ Film contest winners Pedro Pimentel and Sam Bartholomew with their film INTENTION. The film was voted for by those attending the first show in Christchurch. The charities are close to both their hearts, being fathers and exploring the challenges of balancing family life with a life of flying.

 

Cholmondeley is a charity based in Christchurch providing short term care and respite care to Children whose family are facing stress or crisis, a charity Sam is passionate about. https://www.cholmondeley.org.nz/

ONGD NICA is a charity providing meals, education and personal development to the youth of Nicaragua, a charity Pedro has been involved in and is passionate about. https://www.facebook.com/ongdnica/

We are a not for profit Film Festival showcasing NZ and International Hang Gliding, Speedflying and Paragliding films. The proceeds raised from the event go into continuing the festival and to selected charities for the year. We are touring NZ currently with teh 2017 Freedom of Flight Film Festival.
