Friday Features Series 7 #2 "This Room is an Island"
Event Information
About this event
We are all but performers living the broken promise of a four-cornered utopia, a prefabricated world where our marginalised bodies are confined by the design of a script. A hyphenated world.
'This Room is an Island' turns traditional theatre into a mobile exhibition where the audience become active participants, moving around space made interactive and inhabitable by digital technologies such as projection, soundscape design and immersive choreography.
In this experience, we travel together towards becoming docile bodies, where we are rendered unable to conjure psychological strength to turn against the design of the performance (regime/system).
This Truman Show will end, but history repeats itself, in a different time, on another island.
Remember, do not lose your passports.
'This Room is an Island' is an immersive multi-media in development showing by Yin-Chi Lee. Yin-Chi is a female Taiwan-born migrant based in Tāmaki Makaurau. She is a multidisciplinary artist currently studying as a Dance Studies PhD student.
This showing will be facilitated by Yin-Chi Lee, Deborah Fletcher, Kyung Ho Min and Evie Logan.
