About this event
My hands are that of my māmā, her pāpā, his māmā, our tūpuna. The hands that gathered, that protected the whenua, that challenged the crown. Drawing upon the oral histories of my whānau, and whakapapa this work looks backwards to move forwards.
'A line of hands' is a work in development showing that explores Kate's whakapapa, experimenting with movement that is born from the mahi of their hands and the activism they were part of during the historic Ngai Tahu claim.
Kate(Kāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe, Waitaha) is a dance artist from Te Waipounamu. She is a graduate of Unitec Dance, and has a Masters in choreographic research from The University of Auckland.
