Hear from a handful of Fulbright alumni who will present to you insights from their research and/or study in the US - in just 5 minutes!

About this Event

Come along to listen to a mix of Fulbright New Zealand Graduate Award alumni from a diverse range of disciplines, who have recently returned from their award in the United States.

Each speaker has prepared a dynamic, 5 minute presentation for this special lightning talks event. They will give an overview of their area of research or study, share the personal and professional impact of their Fulbright experience – and provide an exciting glimpse into their current projects and plans for the future!

Presenters include:

Sharon Toi, Fulbright-Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga Graduate Award recipient

Sharon researched the invisibility of indigenous women in tribal governance, at the University of Arizona in Tucson, towards a PhD in Law from the University of Waikato. Sharon is currently working at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, Hamilton as the Regional Lead for Quality and Performance.

Alex Cheesebrough, Fulbright New Zealand General Graduate Award recipient

Alex completed a Masters in Engineering Management at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Alex is now working a Water Engineer at Jacobs.

Maia Wikaira, Fulbright-Ngā Pae o Te Māramatanga Graduate Award recipient

Maia completed a Masters in Environmental Law and Policy at Stanford University, where she researched Indigenous water property rights regimes. Maia is currently Tumuaki /Director at Whāia Legal.

Bonnie Jean Scarth, Fulbright New Zealand General Graduate Award recipient

Bonnie researched suicidology at Cornell University in New York. She is currently working as a Suicide Prevention/Postvention Coordinator.

Braeden Carl Donaldson, Fulbright Science & Innovation Graduate Award recipient

Braeden researched the development of an immunotherapeutic vaccine for colorectal cancer at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, towards a PhD in Pathology from the University of Otago. Braeden is a Professional Practice Fellow in the Department of Pathology at The University of Otago Medical School.

Amanda Wallis, Fulbright-EQC Graduate Award in Natural Disaster Research recipient

Amanda researched human behaviour in disaster preparedness at the University of Colorado Boulder in Boulder, Colorado towards a PhD in Psychology at Victoria University of Wellington. Amanda hopes to finish her PhD next year.

Paige Thomas, Fulbright Science & Innovation Graduate Award recipient

Paige researched the impact of skill training on motor neuron disease at Columbia University in New York, towards a PhD in Speech and Language Sciences at the University of Canterbury. Paige is currently completing her PhD.

Richard Hunter, Fulbright Science & Innovation Graduate Award recipient

Richard completed a Master of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering, specialising in space vehicle design and optimisation, at Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Richard works at Rocket Lab as a Guidance and Navigation Engineer - Mission Design.

The presentations will be followed by networking. Light refreshments will be provided.
