Event description

Description

The communications profession is changing rapidly as technology, media and consumer behaviour evolve. Old models of sharing information with audiences need to be updated for key messages to keep reaching the right people. In this panel discussion, expert communicators share how their organisations are keeping up with change and planning for the future.

The 'Future of Communications: Our Work in 2027' panel discussion, sponsored by JacksonStone & Partners, will focus on ways the communications profession is changing and what further changes we may see in future.

Speakers on the panel are:

  • Sharon Hunter (international speaker), IABC Global Chair. Communications is a strategic leadership function in successful organisations - and we need to prove it to stay relevant as practitioners. Sharon will discuss global trends and what it will take to be future fit. Visiting from Canada, Sharon has more than 20 years experience in international marketing and strategic communications.

  • Chris Teeling, Xero Head of Global Strategy, on putting customers at the heart of your communications to drive engagement across digital platforms and in international markets. Chris specialises in driving business growth and has a background helping grow Xero past one million customers globally, COO of Greenbutton - cloud supercomputing for the masses, and global leadership roles with Fonterra and JP Morgan.

  • Lou Draper, Draper Cormack Managing Partner, on the future of PR practitioner work. Lou has 18 years experience in PR and specialises in content strategy, personal brand, media relations and the importance of metrics for business communications.

  • Regan Savage, Kiwibank GM Marketing Communications, on working in innovative ways with technology and the media. Kiwibank has used creative video content on The Spinoff and social media, is a foundation supporter of Newsroom and recently funded the TV show Mind Over Money. Regan will speak about brand alignment and engaging with customers.

  • Debbie Barber, Ministry of Health GM Communications, on trends in government communications and how to evolve a team of people for future comms jobs with a heavier focus on digital. Debbie has held senior communications roles at EQC, MBIE, NZ Police, New Zealand Fire Service, NZ Transport Agency.

This panel discussion is kindly sponsored by executive search and recruitment consultancy JacksonStone & Partners. It is part of a series of events and videos IABC Wellington is producing this year on the theme of Future of Communications in partnership with Wrestler.

2017 is the ten year anniversary of the revitalisation of the IABC Wellington chapter. While we look back and celebrate our history as a professional development organisation for communicators, we're also looking ahead to how our profession will change in future.
