Description

Turning potential into performance by turning theory into practice.

This Ignite Series builds on the learning from the GaTE Foundation Series. Open to all teachers, it looks at practical strategies to provide environmental and intrapersonal catalysts to help gifted students turn potential into performance. It is possible to attend these sessions without having completed the GaTE Foundation Series and activities will be differentiated for primary and secondary teachers.

Day 1 - Environmental Catalysts (16 June)
How can we use the CLEAR Mode (Continual formative assessment, clear Learning goals, data-driven learning Experiences, Authentic products, Rich curriculum) in regular classrooms to provide for gifted students? What are techniques for successful curriculum compacting?
Intrapersonal Catalysts

How do we help build mindsets within our gifted students? How do we improve intrinsic motivation and help create lifelong learners?

Day 2 - Environmental Catalysts (7 August)
What principles from Building Learning Power (Claxton) can be used to support gifted students in the regular classroom? What strategies can be implemented for successful cluster grouping in both primary and secondary school?
Intrapersonal Catalysts

What strategies can we use to support our introverted students in a fast paced, collaborative world? How do we assist them in learning communication skills and knowing how to find the space that they need?

Day 3 - Environmental Catalysts (12 September)
How do we use literacy across the curriculum to extend our gifted students? What will ignite a spark? How could graphic organisers help ALL our students with additional learning needs?
Intrapersonal Catalysts

How can we use techniques from Non-Violent Communication (Rosenberg) to assist our students who struggle with communication? What parts of this process could we use ourselves to enhance our communication with parents of gifted children?

Day 4 - Environmental Catalysts (15 November)
What do we do with our mathematically gifted students? How do we use rich tasks to extend them? How do we “fill in the gaps” of their knowledge whilst still keeping them learning and excited about maths?

Intrapersonal Catalysts
How can learning about personality styles help our gifted students to build social skills? What strategies can we use in the classroom to support this understanding?
