Event description

Description

Our Level 1 PLC is for those interested in learning more about Gifted and Talented Education and looking at developing their own and other professional practice in this specialised area.

Our Learning Communities are based on the BES for teacher Professional Learning and Development, as well as Guskey (1995) guidelines where research for pre-reading and prior thinking is provided before each Learning Community meeting.

This research will provide the starting point for that term’s focus. Each session will be framed by a theme but there will be opportunities provided to network and receive guidance on particular GATE areas that you would like to address.

Members are welcome to bring along additional research, resources or material that can be used alongside those prepared by the Cognition GaTE facilitators.

Please note that school professional learning groups (PLG) are welcome to enrol together to include this PLC as part of their PLG programme.

Day 1 - Adapting the big picture (12 June)
Where does GaTE fit into my schoolwide strategy? How can I raise the profile of GaTE in my school? How does GaTE link into the NZC? How can I use the NZC to meet the needs of my gifted and talented learners?

Day 2 - Who are we missing? (21 August)
I can spot the high achievers but what about those under the radar students? Who are my twice exceptional/2E learners? How do I maximise the talents of 2E students whilst helping them manage their weaknesses? What about my underachievers – those students who are not meeting their potential? How do I find them? How do I engage them?

Day 3 - The rising tide (18 September)
How do I raise the level of critical, caring and creative thinking being taught in classes? What practical strategies can I incorporate into my planning? How will this help me to motivate students?

Day 4 - GaTE 2018 and beyond (21 November)
What have I learnt about the needs of GaTE students in my school? How am I meeting these needs within a school context? Where are my gaps? How do I fill these gaps? What are my GaTE goals for 2018?

This series is suitable for primary, intermediate and secondary.

*Please note that registering for this event gives your school one registration to attend all four meetings, which can be transferred amongst staff each term.
