Event description

Description

Our Level 2 PLC is for those who have completed Level 1 or are already experienced in gifted and talented education.

The purpose of the Level 2 PLC is to delve deeper into specialised GaTE topics. Our Learning Communities are based on the BES for teacher Professional Learning and Development, as well as Guskey (1995) guidelines where research for pre-reading and prior thinking is provided before each Learning Community meeting.

This research will provide the starting point for that term’s focus. Each session will be framed by a theme but there will be opportunities provided to network and receive guidance on particular GATE areas that you would like to address.

Members are welcome to bring along additional research, resources or material that can be used alongside those prepared by the Cognition GaTE facilitators.

Please note that school professional learning groups (PLG) are welcome to enrol together to include the PLC as part of their PLG programme.

Day 1 - What to do with 2E? (14 June)
How do we differentiate for our twice exceptional students? What BYOD support is available to support them to make progress in the regular classroom? How do we break down educational psychologists’ reports so that teachers make use of them?

Day 2 - All too much? (26 July)
How does pressure impact on our gifted students? How do we support teachers who say they “do not have time” to cater for those students who are “doing fine?” How can we implement mindfulness and resilience techniques to support the emotional well-being of our staff and students?

Day 3 - GaTE in BYOD (25 September)
How can we successfully use BYOD to ensure continuous progress for our gifted students? What are schools having the most success with? What research is there to support higher level of engagement by using BYOD?

Day 4 - Beyond the norm (28 November)
How do we identify gifted English language learners? What provision support can we give teachers of these students? How do we ensure we are being culturally inclusive when identifying and providing for gifted ELLs? How do we promote our school to perspective gifted international students?

This series is suitable for primary, intermediate and secondary.

*Please note that registering for this event gives your school one registration to attend all four meetings, which can be transferred amongst staff each term.
