The Ministry is consulting on ‘gazetting’ the full framework of Te Whāriki. This relates to action 4.1 in He taonga te tamaiti – Every child a taonga: Early learning action plan 2019–2029. With this action, it is intended that the goals and learning outcomes of Te Whāriki will become part of the legal curriculum framework for licensed early learning services (except ngā kohanga reo) and certified playgroups.
To strengthen the bicultural intent of Te Whāriki, we are proposing to include in the legal curriculum framework a te ao Māori (‘Māori worldview’) interpretation of the goals and learning outcomes of Te Whāriki.
