A five day workshop as part of Summer School 2017
An introduction to the ancient technique of lost wax glass kiln casting using beautiful, locally made Gaffer Glass. Students will learn to work with wax making hand sized sculptures. These can be fitted together to make a larger work or remain as individual pieces. This 5 day workshop will focus on techniques that students can use to create unique and beautiful glass. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm! Glass will be fired after the workshop.
About Fiona Rennie-Schwieters:
Having developed her practice as a limestone sculptor, Fiona began working with glass during a trip to Italy in 2000. After returning to New Zealand, she spent 6 months gaining skills in bronze casting whilst based at Artworks. A course in lost wax glass casting with David Reid at the Studio Gallery led to 3 years sharing a glass casting studio with Sam Ireland and Greg Smith, as well as an exhibition at the Studio Gallery. In 2005 Fiona set up her own studio in Grey Lynn with a kiln and a flamework torch and has been glass casting using mainly local Gaffer Glass since then. This year she is exhibiting at the Parallax Art Fair and Gabriel Fine Arts, London, and was part of the sculpture trail at Wharepuke in Kerikeri.
