Event Information
About this Event
Kiwis have #gottogetout!
Got To Get Out arranges many FREE outdoor events, to get the communities of NZ active / outdoors / healthy and exploring nature.
For this adventure, The Got To Get Out Queenstown Adventurers invite you (and your kids!) to Hike in Glenorchy.
This Easy grade hike is arranged by our volunteer community leaders with the sole purpose of getting the community outdoors, active, and connected.
NOTE: Our trips are currently capped at 15 people for now - so please make sure you get a ticket, and only come if you have a ticket. If you need to cancel, please do so in enough time that someone else can take your spot.
Details as follows:
Meet 12pm at the One Mile car park by the round- a-bout on Lake esplanade and Glenorchy Road. We will then drive 40 minutes to Glenorchy. A significant distance so It would be great to get some carpooling going, beyond filling community leader Marks car.
Let us know if you’d be willing to drive! Or please bring a few dollars donation for the ride :)
Lake Sylvan campsite is a further 25 minute drive around to the west side of the Dart River braid then up to the Routeburn Road. Aim to start from Lake Sylvan Campsite about 13:30, take the Historic tramway 1.5 Hrs to Lake Sylvan, have a picnic and snacks, maybe take a dip(?)
Walk back to cars via main track 1Hr.
The track winds through historically logged Red Beach forest, is well formed, even footed, mostly quite wide an easy grade and almost entirely flat all creek crossings are bridged. So we are stoked to present an easy, entry level walk, also great for kids.
Meet for a drink at the haven of deliciousness which is the Glenorchy Bar about 5pm.
