Event description
Have you #gottogetout and hike up to the epic Pinnacles Hut in the Coromandel Forest Park?

About this Event

Have you #gottogetout on a harder 'next level' adventure?

Have you already done a number of hikes with Got To Get Out (or on your own) but want to push yourself a bit harder, longer, faster than usual?

Want to be in a smaller group, move quicker through the bush and come home feeling worn out?

Got To Get Out group founder Robert Bruce (NZOIA bush trained guide, Peak Outdoors first aid trained, New Zealander of the Year semi-finalist) is guiding this series of 'harder faster longer' Next Level Adventures, for SMALL adult groups.

This SECOND trip will start and finish at our usual spot (Ponsonby road).

We head to the track start very early in the morning in our bus, smash the hike, and return the same day for a "there and back" mission.

This time we're going to the Pinnacles in the Coromandel!

Details as follow:

5am - meet at Archie Cafe Ponsonby road

5:15am - Departure to track start

7:40 - Arrival at Kauaeranga Kauri Trail start

8am - Start the hike: Pinnacles Hut return (to the summit if we are up to it!)

5pm - Finish hike and drive back to Auckland

7:30pm Back in Auckland for drop off in Ponsonby

Follow an historic packhorse route used by kauri bushmen in 1920s and marvel at spectacular views of the Coromandel Peninsula from the Pinnacles lookout (759 m).

NOTE: This is an intermediate track with a LOT of uphill, so a good fitness is required.

You will be hiking at least 8 hours on this day.

Read more about the track here: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/coromandel/places/coromandel-forest-park/things-to-do/kauaeranga-kauri-trail/

The rules:

- You need to have done several hikes before: Photo proof may be requested.

- Good quality boots / grippy footwear essential, these will be checked pre-departure. Ankle support / warmth / grip needed,

- Good quality backpack and gear (light weight gear recommended)

- Essential is your own emergency blanket, whistle, food, torch (cheap from most stores).

- PLB a good idea though Rob has his,

- Your own food (+ something small to share)

Extra:

- You should be self-sustaining, have your own gear and know how to use it,

- It's a good idea to have brought your own map, checked weather.

- Sorry not dog friendly

- Adults only: over 20

- Half and half male female tickets.

- Tent, sleeping bag / liner possibly needed (for overnight stays only).

Note: yes this is a guided trip but is a collective experience with everyone 'pulling their weight' and helping to finish. We are in it together. This is great team building.

Rob your guide will have;

- emergency comms

- first aid and training, including some emergency food

- maps

- vehicle to and from (bus) and all driving

- concession to be legally hiking on this land

- emergency training

- Great chat, stories of Nepal, and maybe some inspiration!

Your fee covers;

- transport to and from track,

- trip hosting / guiding (whole day)

- concession to DOC or regional parks (owners of land)

- Hike One Give One (we will take out a kid in need another day)

- Support of Got To Get Out.
