Got To Get Out for a fairly HARD-days hiking? Want some stunning views and fitness leading into the Christmas rush? Join us!

If you have already done a few hikes , fitness is OK and want to push yourself a bit further, this hike is for you! 13year olds + are welcome on this trip.

Got To Get Out group founder Robert Bruce (NZOIA bush trained guide, wilderness first aid trained, New Zealander of the Year semi-finalist) is driving and guiding this 'there and back' of the Pinnacles summit, starting from the Kauaeranga Valley, Coromandel

This trip will start and finish at our regular meeting spot outside the Cloud (beside the Ferry terminal) downtown Auckland with all transport provided to and from the track start.

We will head to the track start very early in the morning in our modern comfortable mini-bus, smash the hike, go get a snack, and return the same day for a "there and back" mission.

Schedule as follows:

645am - meet outside the Ferry Terminal Building (be early! 15min, so 630)

7am - Departure in bus after circle of names

8 am - coffee at Bombay BP (*can pickup people from here * )

10am - Start the hike: Pinnacles Hut return (to the summit if you are up to it! Or you can hang out in the hut, eat some food and chill if it's all a bit too much).

(lunch on the trail or in the hut)

Billygoat Track for the return.

4pm (approx) - Finish hike then grab a hot or cold drink in Thames

5pm (approx) drive back to Auckland

7pm (appox) Back in Auckland for drop off at The Cloud

About the trail:

Read more about the track here: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/coromandel/places/coromandel-forest-park/things-to-do/kauaeranga-kauri-trail/

Follow this historic packhorse route used by kauri bushmen in 1920s and marvel at spectacular views of the Coromandel Peninsula from the Pinnacles lookout (759 m).

NOTE: This is an intermediate track with a LOT of uphill (in fact the whole thing is upill!), so a good fitness is required.

Must Have:

- You need to have done several hikes before this one,

- Good quality boots / or grippy footwear essential, these will be checked pre-departure. Ankle support / warmth / grip suggested (trail sneakers are 'ok')

- Good quality day backpack for your jacket and warm clothes, food, water, first aid etc

- Essential is your own emergency blanket, whistle, food, torch (cheap from most stores)

- PLB a good idea though Rob has one,

- Your own food (+ something small to share is nice!).

Extra:

- You should be self-sustaining, have your own gear and know how to use it,

- It's a good idea to have brought your own map, checked weather.

- Sorry not dog friendly

- No under 13's without talking to us first please,

Note: yes this is a guided trip but is a collective experience with everyone 'pulling their weight' and helping to finish. We are in it together. This is great team building.

Rob your guide will have;

- emergency comms,

- first aid and training,

- maps,

You're getting:

- transport in a modern tidy vehicle to and from (mini bus) and all driving

- concession paid to be legally hiking on this land,

- emergency training and support,

- Great chat, stories of Nepal, and maybe some inspiration!

Most of all, you are supporting this SOCIAL ENTERPRISE on a mission to get locals active and outdoors.
