About this Event

GOVERNANCE BITES are a series of free after-five events offering practical development opportunities in bite-sized pieces for 'time poor' and cash-strapped community leaders involved in non-profit boards in Canterbury, served up with pizza.

This session will cover "Not-for-Profit Boards Getting Real About Strategy"

Everyone wants to be strategic these days. It is used to refer to deceit and trickery in reality TV shows. As an adjective it makes any object or activity sound very important. But does it actually have any practical meaning left? What is a strategy and how is it different from a plan? Where does most strategy come from, and what is a realistic approach to developing a strategy for our organisation? And what really is the Board's role in strategy (especially where there also is staff)? Participation in nonprofit boards provides individuals with an opportunity to influence impact in our city. This workshop offers practical tools and approaches to help a board lead organisational strategy.

These sessions are led by Garth Nowland-foreman, an experienced trainer and facilitator, and non-profit governance expert. Garth is a director of LEAD Centre for Not for Profit Governance and Leadership www.lead.og.nz.

Please note: While the Governance Bites workshops run as a series, each session can be attended as a standalone workshop if desired. Please register for each session you are interested in via the Volunteering Canterbury listings.
