Description

GovHack is a series of international events bringing people together with Open Government and Open Data ideas in a hackathon (creative workshop competition) format. GovHack has run in Australia since 2009 with Government support and appreciation.

In 2015, GovHack will happen in Australia and New Zealand over the same weekend, 3 to 5 July. GovHack Wellington will see people from government, the tech sector and the wider community find ways to use New Zealand government data, ingenuity and ideas to solve problems and build innovative uses. We'll help business and individuals work with government and vice versa.

GovHack is NOT about hacking into Government websites. It IS about using open data and new ideas to do something cool and useful.

We want YOU!

If you’re a developer, designer, open data/open government enthusiast, civic-tech enthusiast or knowledgeable about Government processes or policies, we'd love your help. We want mentors, experts and resource people to come along and help out and keep it real. We want to bring a diverse crowd of people together to form creative teams. New Zealanders are a wonderfully diverse bunch and we hope the GovHack Wellington teams will reflect that diversity.

Let's build something to help people deal with challenges like Leaving school, Starting a new career or business, Moving home or Buying a house, or Life after a Natural Disaster.

What to bring!

Bring your own device and ideas. We'll feed you. If you want to know more or add your ideas, sign up to the Hack-Miramar Wikispace where we're sharing advance information and suggestions.

See the GovHack Wellington website for Competition Rules and Code of Conduct, Resource information and more. Short version: Be nice, play fair, and keep this a safe and fun event for all.

GovHack Wellington will be an awesome experience for everyone

Will there be fun? Absolutely. And tigers. We're hoping for tigers.
