About this event
This 3 hour workshop at Staveley Camp will be facilitated by Harakeke weaver Vicky King and will cover an introduction to harakeke (flax), harvesting and preparing it for weaving, also tikanga.
Once preparation of the flax is complete, participants will learn to weave bracelets with the harakeke. No experience is required - this is suitable for adult beginners.
Please note: tikanga applies so no weaving for those who are pregnant or have their period at the time of the wananga.
This event is part of the Keep Learning Mid Canterbury Term 4 programme.
There are only 10 places so get in quick if you're interested!
If this event has sold out, check out the morning workshop held on the same day, same place, same weaving teacher from 1-4pm. Similar but participants will make flowers rather bracelets.
Note, there is a follow up 2 day course for taking weaving to the next level - November 20-21, weaving a pikau (backpack), at Hakatere Marae, Ashburton.
The Harakeke Wananga have been made possible thanks to funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
