Harakeke Wānanga - Flaxweaving for Beginners

About this event
This one-day workshop at Hakatere Marae will be facilitated by Harakeke weaver Vicky King and cover an introduction to harakeke (flax), harvesting and preparing it for weaving, also tikanga.
Once preparation of the flax is complete participants will weave a pop-up kete.
Participants are to bring their lunch with them. Please note: tikanga applies so no weaving for those who are pregnant or have their period at the time of the wananga.
There are only 12 places available so get in quick to secure your place. There is a follow up 2 day course for taking weaving to the next level on March 5-6.
This event is part of the Keep Learning Mid Canterbury programme and is open to anyone. The Harakeke Wānanga have been made possible thanks to funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
Please note vaccination passes are required under Red according to Hakatere Marae policy.
