About this event

This wananga is over two days, 9am - 5pm both days and is for intermediate level weavers. It will be held at Hakatere Marae.

During the 2 day wananga harakeke weaver Vicky King will explain treatment and process options for harakeke and teach you how to weave a pīkau (backpack) or a shopping kete (basket).

Participants will need to cut and prepare their flax prior to the wānanga. If you are in/ near Ashburton, there is a possibility of getting together to do this the day or so before, weather permitting. Specifics of what to prepare and bring will be provided after you've registered/ closer to the time.

Participants are to bring their lunch with them both days.

Please note: tikanga applies so no weaving for those who are pregnant or have their period at the time of the wananga.

This event is part of the Keep Learning Mid Canterbury programme and is open to anyone. The Harakeke Wānanga have been made possible thanks to funding from the Creative Communities Scheme.
