About Hardware Meetup AKL: Energy
Hardware Meetup AKL is one of the largest gatherings of hardware and product enthusiasts in New Zealand! Every two months, we showcase founders, engineers and the world-leading products they're building.
At this March 27th event, we'll be hearing from three speakers building energy-related products.
Speaker 1: Emily Melhuish
Emily Melhuish is an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Auckland and a Software Intern at Rocket Lab, and she believes battery technology needs improving. She wanted to develop a better way to determine the percentage of battery charge left in the batteries of electric vehicles, so built a rig to help determine states of charge in a more effective manner. For her work, Emily won the prestigious GT Murray Award and Best Project in AI/Machine Learning at the University of Auckland.
Speaker 2: Steve & Dee West from ChargeNet
Steve and Dee West founded ChargeNet in 2015, and its network of New Zealand-wide electric car charging stations has now grown to 63, with 10 under construction and 105 to be open by 2019. Their rapid DC chargers let any EV owner quickly recharge their vehicle, typically in 10 – 30 minutes. ChargeNet has won multiple awards including Innovation in Energy at the 2017 Deloitte Energy Excellence Awards.
One more speaker coming soon!

More About Hardware Meetup AKL:
We believe New Zealand should be global leaders in the development of hardware and physical products.
In response, Hardware Meetup AKL is bringing together some of New Zealand's brightest engineers, hardware entrepreneurs, product designers and enthusiasts to meet each other and celebrate our products.
Our bi-monthly events, held at Auckland's innovation hub GridAKL, are showcasing some of New Zealand's most exciting products and founders. We aim to create an environment for open conversations, opportunities, and shared resources. Events are themed (HealthTech, Aerospace, AgTech etc), and include a combination of guest speakers, product demos, and one-minute pitches.

GridAKL
GridAKL is the amazing space we are lucky to call home; a space created to bring established innovative business and start-ups together into one humming technology precinct.
Diversity
We believe diversity of thought makes life as good as it is. Diversity of thought comes from diversity of gender, ages, and races. A broad set of perspectives allows us to solve problems better, accelerate change faster, and make the world a whole lot nicer.
In our ongoing effort to increase the level of diversity at our events, around half of our tickets will be available as General Admittance to anyone, and the remaining percentage will be retained and allocated to genders who aren't as well represented (we're choosing to address gender first).
