Harore ki roto I te ipu- Mushrooms in Containers
Event Information
About this event
This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to learn, or to try their hand at growing fungi easily and quickly. Growing healthy food is usually thought of as being from a garden plot, but what if I said you could grow high nutrient, bio-ethical food, in upcycled containers at home?
Over 2.5-3 hours this hands-on workshop will support you to learn about the fungi life cycle, cultivation techniques and how fungi as food fits into our lives, before guiding you step by step through the process of inoculating containers with NZ Native/ Endemic mushroom spawn. You will take home your two containers, inoculated with NZ Oyster spawn to care for, and the skills and confidence to create more containers at home. In addition, you will have the chance to further practice your skills making an additional container (supplied), which will be donated by Manaaki Mushrooms to local community or education groups who are keen to care for and enrich our communities minds and bellies.
Two for you, one for the community!
After you have reserved your ticket you will be sent more information to prepare you to attend your workshop. This information will include what to bring, as well as access to important documents related to the health and safety risks and procedures in this workshop, and sign on forms.
**Please note: We ask you, the participant, to bring two 1.5-2L litre, food safe containers with lids, upcycled where possible. Commonly used containers include icecream containers (my top pick), sturdy takeaway containers, catering tubs, old lunchboxes or tuppaware.
I look forward to having you join me for a hands on learning experience!
