Event description
This workshop will help you develop the know-how you need to start growing NZ Native/Endemic mushrooms on logs at home.

About this event

This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to learn, or to try their hand at growing fungi in nature-like conditions. Growing healthy food is usually thought of as being from a garden plot, but what if you could grow high nutrient, bio-ethical food, on locally sourced logs, requiring little aftercare?

Over three hours, this hands-on workshop will encourage you to explore the fungi life cycle, cultivation techniques and how fungi as food fits into our lives, before guiding you step by step through the process of inoculating logs with NZ Native/ Endemic mushroom spawn. You will walk away with two 30-45cm approx logs of your own to care for, and the skills and confidence to create and care for more logs at home.

In addition, you will have the chance to further develop your skills inoculating an additional larger log, which will be donated by Manaaki Mushrooms to local community groups who are keen to care for and enrich our communities minds and bellies. Two for you, one for the community!

Please note the events are paid events. There is a sign on document I ask people to review to confirm their spot before making payment (we are using power tools = health and safety considerations as part of your sign on), hence not having the payment option on the ticket site.

After you have reserved your ticket you will be sent an email to prepare you to confirm your workshop attendance directly with Manaaki Mushrooms. The email will include links to access important documents related to the health and safety risks and procedures in this workshop, and sign on forms. Closer to the time, around a week prior, you will receive an email reminder with more information about the flow of the day.

I look forward to having you join me for a hands on learning experience!
