He Waka Eke Noa connects Maori and Pasifika-owned businesses with clients and buyers.

The name He Waka Eke Noa is taken from the whakataukī, literally translating as 'the canoe which we are all in without exception' or simply put ‘we’re all in this together’. It refers to the collective consciousness that affirms belonging to a group.

He Waka Eke Noa, as New Zealand’s first supplier diversity facilitator, connects the public sector and other major corporations and institutions with Maori and Pacific owned businesses.

A strong partnership among government, major corporations and small businesses allows for a more equitable distribution of wealth, the creation of employment opportunities, and the creation of an expanded customer base.

He Waka Eke Noa is a priority for The Southern Initiative because we firmly believe that Māori and Pasifika businesses are an untapped pathway for socio-economic transformation for South Auckland and West Auckland. Māori and Pasifika have not shared in the prosperity of Auckland’s economic growth and HWEN is an opportunity to rectify this.
