About this event

Akina Vinyl Appreciation Society & Bada Bing Sound System heard the run it back call so we’ve locked and loaded another HERETAUNGA DUB CLUB just for you! Come join us for more crucial selections of uplifting Roots, Reggae and Dub at Hastings favourite bar.

On the one’s & two’s and mic duties we have:

* Man like DLT ‘nuff respect!

Renowned DJ, composer, producer and graphic artist DLT is taking over Selector duties at the Common Room on 26 July! Often described as the Godfather of New Zealand hip hop, DLT was a founding member of Aotearoa’s first hip hop group, the legendary Upper Hutt Posse, who went on to release NZ’s first hip hop recording E Tū in 1988 and support Public Enemy on their 1990 Tour of a Black Planet.

DLT went on to release two acclaimed solo albums – The True School and Altruism. Many know DLT’s iconic Chains single, featuring Che Fu on vocals, which went on to reach number one on the NZ singles chart and win Best Single award at the NZ Music Awards. Others know DLT from his time hosting the True School Show on 95bFM, Trueschool TV with DJ Sir-Vere and later MTV’s Wreckognise show, all of which played critical roles in the development of NZ hip hop culture.

A lesser known fact is that DLT was involved in the reggae scene and sound system culture before most of us could spell JBL! DLT’s recollections of early NZ sound clashes and dub plate culture resonated with us, leading to the decision to build Bada Bing’s reggae style scoop bins.

It took over two years but now say we truly blessed to have DLT throwing down on the rig!

* Freddy

Akina Vinyl Appreciation Society founder and true stalwart of the NZ vinyl game, Freddy is renowned for having the deepest crates on the East Coast. Freddy has curated an eclectic blend of Roots, Reggae and Dub for you to vibe to at Hastings favourite bar.

* No introduction needed for our very special guest, the Queen that is Margot Pierard!

Described as the woman with a velvet voice as smooth as latte, Margot regularly headlines at venues throughout Aotearoa. If you’ve been lucky enough to experience her signature blend of jazz, soul and blues; you’ll understand why Margot always attracts sell-out crowds.

Not content with being your favourite jazz diva, Margot has also been making waves when performing with local funk legends Tropical Downbeat Orchestra and more recently accompanying Sound Selectors DJ Sneeky.

Much blessed to have Margot on the mic at Heretaunga Dub Club, Common Room 26 July!

* Professor Dynamite - man like Prof also need likkle introduction, having played in numerous ensembles across the motu. Ain’t saying nothing, but rumours of fresh cut dub plates in the air again!

Be prepared for an uplifting set of conscious riddims and deep dubs when the Professor arrives with his black wax for the soul rebels.

Bada Bing Sound System will be supporting the positive vibrations with their bass heavy rig. Operator A-On will be at the controls to ensure you get that warm, rich sound and clarity that the 'Bing is renowned for.
