Description
This is a FREE weekend event that brings together healthcare and technology professionals to brainstorm, collaborate and develop solutions that will benefit the New Zealand health sector. The hackathon is an open source environment which enables the event to have a transparent and altruistic atmosphere. It’s just a bunch of friendly people working together and learning from each other. Come along!
What happens at a hackathon?
The event opens with networking from 5.30pm. After some (short) welcome speeches anyone with an idea for a product makes a 1 minute pitch and seeks team members. Teams form organically and work on solutions for the rest of the weekend. There are mentors available throughout the weekend to help out and offer advice. Each team has the opportunity to present their work on Sunday afternoon. We invite an expert judging panel (that includes clinicians and start-up experts) to watch the presentations and to award prizes based on the judging criteria.
Do I have to be there all weekend?
The choice is yours. You can attend for a few hours or for the entire weekend. Most team members attend for the entire time but some don't - it depends what your role is within the team. Some mentors attend for a few hours on one day and others are available all weekend.
Who should come along?
Software developers, clinicians, health sector managers, patients and anyone with an interest in healthcare technology. Hackathons bring together people with a wide range of skills from many different backgrounds, who would not usually get the opportunity to work together. You don’t need special technical skills to attend.
If you wish to have fun while making a positive difference to the New Zealand health sector – come along. If you think you will be out of your comfort zone – come along. Everyone can make a positive contribution to a hackathon.
