About this event
Articulating the benefits of health research to collectively demonstrate impact for New Zealanders.
Jessica Glen, Senior Policy Analyst, Health Research Council of New Zealand)
This session will discuss the background and context within which the Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) has implemented proactive assessment of potential research impact at the application stage. Creating the space to have these discussions builds capability around articulating the benefits of health research to the public, and signals our expectations for how researchers will actively work to maximise the impact of their publicly-funded research (both the ‘doing of’ the research and the ‘outcomes of’ the research). It is also an opportunity for the HRC, and the wider science and innovation funding system (e.g. The Royal Society, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment) to learn how we can further support and enable these activities. Some key points in our assessment process will be highlighted, as well as some lessons learned over time running the current process.
The Health Research Council of New Zealand (HRC) is the Government’s principal funder of health research. Our core activity is to invest in excellent health research that addresses the health needs of all New Zealanders, and support innovations that will boost New Zealand’s economy. We aim to serve New Zealand in the best way we can by supporting the research that will help to build a healthy future both now, and for future generations.
Jessica will speak about her experiences and we will host a Q&A session.
Time: 12.30pm – 1:30pm
Date: Monday 19 October
