Event description

Description

Synchrony is harmony: a journey through synchronous programming

Synchronous programming languages were invented in the mid-80s in France for the design of safety-critical systems, with the control software in the Airbus A380 being a prominent case study. Partha's inaugural lecture will focus on how his academic journey so far – from India to New Zealand – has been influenced not by research alone, but the synchrony seen in seemingly unrelated ancient Vedic thought and Indian classical music. He will also discuss the applications of synchronous programming in emerging domains such as airport baggage handling, heart-on-a-chip design and real-time machine learning.
