With Kate Bush/Nina Hagen/Joanna Newsom and Aldous Harding comparisons, quirky singer/songwriter Catherine KS has swooping vocals, fusing folk, rock, pop, punk and opera into her unique hybrid sound. With catchy tunes, meaningful lyrics, “Unique”, “Mesmerising” and “Quirky” stage presence/performance are oft received feedback. Catherine is currently preparing to record new songs and working on paintings for new videos done in the same self-produced style of her “Adelie Penguin and Daenerys” song and video.

Calla is a force of nature wielding exceptional musical skill as a spiritual spellcaster capturing audiences in a suspended time-rift. A lifelong student of the-human-voice-as-instrument, electronic musician, violinist, and pianist, Calla is one of those people for whom music is not a pond lightly dabbled in, but an ocean that she calls home. It’s not so much that she plays music, as it simply pours out of her. Expect ancient folk songs of foreign lands, savage electronic drums and bass, and original songs of the deeply personal and heartfelt variety. If music is the language of the soul then Calla is a polyglot who speaks truth in many tongues. Calla is a classically trained vocalist combining vocal & violin looping, keys, electronic beats & heavy bass to create an immersive sonic experience.

Reid+Wolken are a Dunedin based contemporary jazz duo. Combining the dark-hued sultry timbres of vocalist Karin Reid with the distinctive harmonically and the texturally rich approach of guitarist Alex Wolken. They have been honing a unique sound dubbed 'indie jazz-noir' for the last few years, coaxing expansive harmonies and subtle grooves from their minimal setup. Repertoire ranges from moody and textural takes on jazz standards and modern jazz vocalese through to original compositions which evince the influence of the avant-garde, and compellingly imaginative reworkings of alternative and indie pop/rock songs. Reid+Wolken are currently in the process of writing material with the intention of recording and releasing a full length album of mostly original work.

This event is supported by the Dunedin Jazz, Cabaret & Performing Arts Trust.
