Event description
Biofilms Infections Symposium

About this Event

The University of Auckland would like to invite researchers, clinicians and industry leaders to a special symposium in Auckland on 21 Feb 2020.

Our keynote speaker is Associate Prof Dustin Williams from the University of Utah, a rising star in the field of biofilm infections and Editor of “Targeting Biofilms in Translational Research, Device Development, and Industrial Sectors”, published in November.

The symposium will generate a common understanding of “Biofilm” between NZ clinicians and researchers to focus translational medical science on clinically applicable targets

Outcomes:

1. Assessment Chronic Infection / Biofilm Definitions: Clinical, Diagnostic and Researcher Views

2. Review of Domestic Research into Chronic Infection versus Clinical Need – Gap Analysis

3. Recommendations for Strategic Partnerships and Targeted Biofilm Research

4. Discuss Potential for Industry Role in Enabling Translation

This is an interactive symposium to understand global and NZ research in this area, and to identify and work collaboratively on areas of research that could lead to new treatments. Funded by MedTech Core, Royal Society Catalyst and Biocide Toolbox.

Short 5 min presentations from biofilm and chronic infection specialists are invited.
