About this event
About the event
Lockdowns, fires, and closed borders initiated a fight or flight mode for New Zealand businesses, employees, and government agencies. When put to the task of extreme survival conditions, teams adopted rapidly to digitisation, new business models were formed and partnerships created, while we simultaneously considered more flexible ways of working and connecting and re-evaluated what long-term success really is.
But 2021 feels a little less restless. And this could lead to complacency. This survival simulation workshop will reinvigorate that sense of urgency, to stimulate a rapid ascent of innovation and adaptation that the gravity of 2020 placed on us. Your team and business survived 2020, but the challenge is now to not just survive 2021 but thrive and plot your course to 2035.
What you'll focus on
It’s critical to understand the evolving landscape of 2021 and beyond and how the four dimensions of Planet, People, Policy, and Platforms will play into everything we do, in business and our everyday lives, as we strive to decarbonise, revolutionise and energise a prosperous future for all New Zealanders. In this full-day workshop, facilitated by industry experts and our leading innovative team, you’ll engage in interactive, collaborative, and immersive sessions across these four dimensions and apply them to your business or sector:
Planet: In this session we will discuss how we can decarbonise and build more circular models of business. Regeneration and sustainability advocate and social entrepreneur practitioner Saskia Verraes will challenge your current business model against new more harmonious practices that arguably offer better growth prospects for business and the planet.
People: In this session with our Innovation Director Taurean Butler and Innovation Adviser Megan Rorich, your team will consider how automation and demographic changes will impact your current workforce and reputation. Your decisions will determine how if your organisation is placed to take advantage of the automation revolution or will your actions leave your people disenfranchised?
Platforms: In this session you will create your own connected environment, using sensors, internet, and data visualisation. From there our advisor John McDermott, founder of BoatSecure, member of the executive council for the NZ IoT Alliance, will talk through how companies can begin implementing and building on the platforms enabling the Internet of Things.
Policy: Can government regulation inspire business innovation and resilience? Our Innovation Director Taurean Butler will take you through a simulation to look at regulatory policies around the world regarding technology, trade, and security and apply them to your business.
How you'll learn
This is not a lecture of talk about what to do. The interactive sessions are practical hands-on workshops where you’ll learn engage with frameworks that enable you to think through your future strategies and you'll experience new emerging technologies. Exercises and team work to help you break out of your day to day mindset and look forward, look wider and think bigger.
Collaboration is key value of how Tech Futures Lab supports learning, and in these workshops you'll work together in teams with colleagues from your organisation and engage with other business leaders and entrepreneurs on problem solving and innovation challenges.
The immersive nature of the sessions will mean your team will be confronted with not-too unimaginable scenarios in the coming decade for your business sector. This long term vision will put you right in amongst the realities of poorly made, or boldly taken decisions.
